The remuneration for this position is $40,000 – $60,000. Overseas sponsorship is considered for the ideal candidate by VetPartners Australia.

Sydney Veterinary Emergency & Specialists is a 1000m2 purpose-built facility situated in Rosebery who in the last 2 years of operation has expanded exponentially in all our services.  We have state of the art equipment which helps us to provide the absolute best care to patients in conjunction with our exceptional staff. The team has full time surgical, canine and feline medicine specialists, as well as a large, well-supported emergency team.  Additionally, we have a dermatology specialist on Saturdays, dentistry on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and a diagnostic imaging specialist Monday to Friday.

Our growing team of dedicated professionals are looking for nurses who want to grow with us, embrace our ideals and who are dedicated to exceptional patient and client care. Our medicine team needs two motivated nurses to join the team due to the continued growth in our caseload. 

The Position:

We are looking for a professional and empathic medicine nurse who works well in a team and additionally can also work autonomously.  Patient and client care need to be a priority in your work.    Working some public holidays is a requirement of the position.  Shifts will be a mix of weekdays and a weekend in the roster rotation. 

 

The position involves but is not limited to:

  • Triage of emergency medicine patients
  • Responsible for organising and assisting with procedures on medicine patients
  • Assistance in oncology procedures
  • Skilled to perform anaesthesia on a range of patients from paediatric to geriatric patients and often critically ill patients for short or long procedures.
  • Placement of IV catheters, phlebotomy, performing radiographs of diagnostic quality, intensive care and monitoring, pre and post-operative patient care.
  • Work directly with specialists and emergency clinicians to ensure that the patient, clients, clinicians and team are all attended to and working in sync.
  • Client communication – providing advice, answering questions and soothing client fears about the status of their pet.
  • Cleaning – while we have a fantastic animal attendant team, the nurses still need to help to keep the hospital clean and tidy.
  • The position includes ongoing education allowances, including assessing to various online training opportunities.
  • Regular nurse meetings.
  • Setup and maintenance of equipment and assisting in performing joint taps, gut biopsy, CT and BAL, endoscopy and CSF taps.

 

About You:

  • You must be fluent in English and have excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Display professionalism, empathy and excellent customer service and care.
  • Love’s animals and respects clients
  • Great time management skills
  • Must have a current Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or demonstrate equivalent on-the-job experience. For medicine nurse positions, experience in specialist/ referral practice is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience as a qualified veterinary nurse.
  • Previous Medicine nurse experience desired but not compulsory
